Roger Avery
Hailing from Busselton, Western Australia, Roger Avery has been passionate about aviation since childhood. His journey into flying began at just fifteen years old, when—with the support of his parents—he started flying lessons at the Bunbury Aero Club. Remarkably, he obtained his restricted pilot licence at sixteen, before he was even old enough to drive a car. After earning his commercial pilot licence, Roger pursued his instructor rating, building experience in general aviation. He now flies for Busselton Air Service, specializing in aerial photography and charter flights. Additionally, during the summer months, he works with Helicopter Logistics, undertaking prescribed aerial ignition programs and assisting in aerial firefighting operations with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. For Roger, the Girt by Sea aerial photography project stands as one of the greatest highlights of his flying career. He considers it a privilege to have been part of the team, helping to bring this extraordinary vision to life from the skies.

Steve Kruger
Born in 1970 and raised in the rural South West of Western Australia, near Busselton, Steve has been passionate about aviation since childhood. At seventeen, he turned that passion into a career by joining the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). After earning his wings, Steve flew both C-130 Hercules four-engine transport aircraft and FA-18 Hornet fighter jets in operational roles. His extensive service included multiple tours as a military flying instructor, training pilots on jet trainers both within the RAAF and later as an overseas military contractor. Now, Steve continues to indulge his love for aviation by flying light civil aircraft while enjoying life in the South West, where he resides with his wife and three children. Being part of the Girt by Sea project was a true privilege for Steve, allowing him to combine his passion for flying with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase Australia’s breathtaking coastline from the air.
